Company description
Previously called Olifantshoek (Elephant's Corner) - where Addo elephants once roamed freely - the town is now known as Alexandria in honour of Alexander Smith, the first Dutch Reformed Dominee sent here to look after the local gemeente (congregation). The Xhosa name for the town is Emnyameni which means "at the rainbow". This business began serving travellers in March 1852 and has been doing so continuously since then and for the past 20 years has been steadily upgraded by owner/managers Kathleen and Peter Gordon.
