KWV was founded in 1918, the same year South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, was born. In the space of just over a century, the country and its wine industry have seen many changes – and KWV, as the company who united wine farmers during the industry’s fledgling and struggle years, is privileged to feature prominently in the annals of South African history.

This global recognition is undoubtedly due to KWV’s flexibility and ability to source the building blocks for its wines from various vineyard sites. KWV’s strength and competitive advantage is its ability to source grapes from diverse geographic regions, resulting in wines that are consistent, and respected. Procuring the best wines for spirits, gin and liqueur production, our excellent distilling facilities and processes, also underpins the frequent awards and recognition that KWV receives for these product categories.

These grapes are sourced from the most sought-after viticultural regions of South Africa. Grapes are expertly handled and transported to KWV’s cellar facilities in Paarl in the Cape Winelands. Our facilities cover approximately 32 hectare, and at the heart, the world-famous Cathedral Cellar, built in 1930.

This commitment to quality is evident in all aspects of our business; reflected in multiple awards and international accolades. We achieve this by proudly subscribing to sustainable wine practices, and production integrity. KWV is also a member of Aware.org, a non-profit organization concerned with practices that reduce harm caused by alcohol misuse and abuse.
