Eden Timber - George, South Africa

Eden Timber was started in George, Western Cape, South Africa by Andreas (Andy) Sittig. The picturesque city of George is known as the “Heart of the Garden Route” and well known for its timber industry and fine carpentry.

Originally from Germany, Andy trained as a German Master Carpenter in the 1970’s and has been making beautiful wooden products ever since! Clientele always get top-quality, solid wood products made by him and his well-trained staff. His client list includes the Mövenpick Group in Germany, the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Oubaai, The Pearl Hotel in Wilderness and many residents at Pinnacle Point, Oubaai, Fancourt and Simola Golf estates.

Whilst the bread-and-butter of Eden Timber is conventional furniture and bed bases, Andy’s passion is creating custom-made

furniture to order from solid woods, especially fine woods like Blackwood, Yellowwood and Stinkwood; all of which are indigenous to the Garden Route.

Corporate gifts like presentation boxes and exotic-wood boards, laser-engraved with a company logo or details are also popular. Andy has made steak plates, cheese and biltong platters and serving trays in various woods for many corporate clients. George’s world-famous pottery shop “Wonki Ware” gets its individual, sliding lid, laser-engraved, wooden packing cases from Andy. Nigella Lawson sells some of these online. Magnum bottles of Retief Goosen’s “Goose Wines” were presented to winners at St Andrews Golf Course in Scotland in Andy’s beautiful, lacquered wine presentation boxes a few years back!

Eden Timber has a wonderful “vibe” and many customers have become friends with Andy who is known for his wicked sense of humour!!! The workshop is always full of laughter and the cheerful staff is considered family by Andy and his wife Wendy. Visitors are always welcomed with open arms at the factory.
