GK-IT Environmental Services was established in February 2003 when current management realized that South African industry were in need of an alternative to the traditional “dig and dump” approach to accidental petroleum spillages. The business was based on a novel approach to the bioremediation of petroleum contaminated soil and water, which avoided the costly exercise of sending the same material for landfill, and allowed the clean topsoil and / or water to be reused for its initial purpose before contamination occurred. Product development and testing in the field was logically followed by the establishment of a South African based production plant which began operation in March 2004.

manufactures a diverse range of environmental protection and rehabilitation products. The current product range includes a variety of locally developed and manufactured hydrocarbon and chemical absorbents, bioremediation products, environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals and pollution control equipment such as spill kits, used oil recovery stations, waste recycling stations and oily water separators.
GK-IT Environmental has over the years built a reputation for the management of large and small scale bioremediation projects and therefore has recently also diversified into the provision of Hazmat Services in order to supply a “Total Hazardous Waste Management Solution” to our customers. GK-IT’s Hazmat and Industrial Services is already a well-known Hazmat Services provider in some South African industrial sectors, adding to the scope of an already successful product manufacturing and supply organisation. The addition of GK-IT’s Hazmat and Industrial Services has allowed the provision of superior products to be backed by excellent Hazmat Services to our customers and distributors.
Our offering now includes 24-Hour Spill Response, Specialized Industrial Cleaning, Plant Decontamination, Plant Shut down Cleaning, Factory and Industrial Fire Clean-Up, Tank and Silo Cleaning, Confined Space Entry and Cleaning, Vacuum Vehicle Services, High Pressure and Ultra High Pressure Cleaning, Historical Spill Clean-Up, Oil Collection, Asbestos Handling and Hazardous Waste Handling, Removal, Disposal and Recycling.
Our site specific approach has allowed us to become part of our customer’s universe, often with an on-site team providing everything from consumable products through to 24 Hour Spill Response and the subsequent bioremediation of contaminated soils and separator sludge at a licensed, on-site bioremediation facility. We are recognized, by both our direct customers and distributors, as leaders in the field of remediation management, environmental product development and now site specific waste management systems and installations.
