Company description
The first Ocean Basket seafood restaurant opened its doors in 1995 in Menlyn Park, Pretoria. Fats Lazarides had seen the opportunity to create a restaurant that served delicious seafood at affordable prices. In those days, seafood restaurants were reserved for the upper crust, and a portion of prawns was a real extravagance. Fortunately, Fats had always been one to swim against the current.

His first Ocean Basket was a measly 60 square meters, with just 6 tables. The menu offered only a handful of dishes, including fish and chips, prawns, hake, calamari and Kingklip. The seafood restaurant included a fresh fish deli. The landlord imposed restrictions on what could be sold; only one wine and a limited choice of soft drinks was served. In true Ocean Basket spirit, Fats invited customers  
Show more to bring their own drinks and even their own salads.

Fats was born to serve. He knew every customer by name and would regularly test meals to ensure that they were up to Ocean Basket standards. Soon, Pretoria had fallen in love with this loud, crazy, Mediterranean deli and seafood restaurant.

Ocean Basket has always had a family inspiration behind it. Fats’ mom, Liza Lazarides, added a touch of her own special magic to the seafood restaurant. Her ethos of serving every single customer with love and passion is still reiterated in all the crew training. Today, Mama Liza continues to bake Baklava and Kataifi desserts and whips up our delicious dips too.

Mall of Africa Ocean Basket service is bad
Ocean Basket Mall of Africa

The service from Emanuel Ndlovu was bad then he gave us wrong food and when we got home that same food tasted old.

I'm disappointed because it's not the first time we get a bad service from this particular Ocean Basket

Best Service from Nathan - Times Square
My husband and I visited OB Menlyn Maine on 30 Jul 21. We were seated immediately. After a minute or so we were greeted by the manager on duty called Nathan. Nathan had a smile on his face and a warm welcome to his voice. The restaurant soon filled up and became very busy in a very short space of time. Nathan and his staff maintained their cool and were professional at all times. I would recommend Nathan to any other restaurant.

Ocean Basket needs to start from the beginning
When Ocean Basket first started the quality was impressive, every plate looked amazing, however in the last 2 years I would say you have dropped your standards and really need to rebook at how you were before, we have tried a few Ocean baskets and find the same accross the board, your standars and brilliant looking plates have definitely taken a dive, platter plates look like they are cooked in old oil and then dumped in a pan, it's all a big mush on a pan, it doesn't have the same crunchy golden brown smack of the fresh Ocean it use to be. The new dishes look amazing on the menu pictures and maybe the chefs have not been taught how to make them properly, you have a new dish with 3 mussels and 3 prawns, this was a tasteless dish and definitely was not up to scratch. I just think you need to take a step back and get the passion and drive back that you once had if you want to survive. When I eat out it must be a memorable experience and not one where I walk away and say that was a total waste of money.....I think we were a number one fan of Ocean Basket, but that is no longer the case....hope you can fix it.

Very Bad!!!
In my entire life,never been served with more terrible food than Capetown Airport Ocean Basket.NEVER seen stuff they called rolls,cant cut it with a knife,taste like raw dough.Fish is still frozen inside,chips taste like old fish oil and spicey rice so dry,only rice with carrots.Complaine with manager he cant find anything wrong but the waiter were sorry for us about the food.

Bad service
Hi good day. We bought the full portion fish and chips and fish and salad from Ocean basket in the Highveld mall in Witbank. To my surprise when we got home with the takeaway the shamefull portion is what we got. See attached picture. Is this how you treat loyal customers? And at a price of R82,00. What a shame. Disgusting. Half a tomato in the salad. This is ridiculous.

Terrible experience
Good afternoon
I had a terrible experience with ocean basket gateway on Friday.
The store closed at 3 because it was new year's day. I placed an order for pick up at 2
When i got home with my platter for 2 the calamari n squids were literally like rubber. Had only 8 calamari and the rest squids.the mussels were extremely salty
I called in Saturday morning spoke to the manager and explained.
He told me he was going to get investigate and get back to me on Saturday. Its now Sunday afternoon and no response. What type of management is that?Very bad service. For such an expensive meal and to receive service like this is terrible

Bad service
Me and me wife were having a 2 course meal (starter and mains). We arrived 14h50 and was seated by a waiter. He took our order. Another couple was seated by the same waiter way after we placed our order. Our starters only arrived at 15h35 whilst the couple seated after us already received mains. 16h00 pm we were served with mains. I went to one of the managers (male) and inform him of my dissatisfaction. He did not even return to me with an apology or any word of comfort. This situation is unacceptable and I am going to make it known to many people using the Vincent outlet. It will be appreciated if this issue can be addressed as a matter of urgency otherwise you will loose business. Bad service indeed. Anthony Sampson ********

Complaint in regards to OB R35 Special
I want to know why OB is advertising the R35 special and when we drove today to go make use of it we were told it is no longer on but still in TV and this is false advertising

Best thing I ever had
Tonight me and my friend went out to dine at O. B USHAKA MARINE DURBAN. We waited at the entrance for reasonable few seconds as we were welcomed by a very welcoming Colgate smile from a male waiter whose name I didn't get. He kindly and energetically took us to our table.Even though the restaurant was fully packed We were quickly attended by our waiter for the evening Dolly. As we waited for the food the manager(Solly) came to check on us if we had been attended to and he was totally helpful. We enjoyed the service from these 2 until our leaving. They both are energetic, vibrant n professionally friendly with totality of service.

Putrid service from GILLIAN - N1 City Ocean Basket
She is extremely RUDE with NO people or listening skills.... the platter I received was off... after notifying her .... she was very rude (not apologizing at all).... She basically had the attitude as if to say.... (you can go and fly a kite)... WOW im definitely taking this to social media ... on ALL platforms...

GILLIAN the manager/owner of N1 City Ocean Basket should be Client/customer facing EVER!!! or even near food for that matter...

TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY
We are very sorry that we spent our hard earned money at Ocean Basket, George, Western Cape last night...(for our family treat) The food was shocking... The prawns and kingklip like rubber... the sushi tasted "fishy" the waiter accidently spilt my drink on me and NEVER offered me another one. Only once my husband asked where is my new drink, did he say "oh" but I then said just leave it, (still charged) While the Manageress (Asanda) was very polite and did send me new prawns, they came back just the same.... we got a 50% discount on the platter for 2, we probably ate 10% of it.... very very disappointed and will never eat there again!!!!

Most disgusting food ever. From starters to main. Had to send food back three times. Kiddies meal fish nuggets undercooked. Send it back. Came back the same way. Been eating at Ocean baskets all over Pretoria. Irene village mall the worst. Serves sub-standard meals. Two tables in our surroundings also send food back

Please close the OB in Hartswater. We drive all the way from Hertzogville to Hartswater to eat at the OB. We wait a long time for the suschi that we ordered. We order a soup and two platters for two. And we ordered drinks. After a hour they bring the soup without a spoon. We asked twice for a spoon but didnt get one. They bring one platter and then ask if we ordered two.....the lady write the order down but now she ask if we ordered two. It is a joke!!!!!We arrived at half past twelve and at three o clock we still didnt get our drinks or platter. PLEASE close that OB because it is giving you a bad name. Thank you

My family and went for lunch at the Mossel Bay Ocean Basket ( now moved to new premises). Terrible - stale white bread, calamari oily and cooked in old oil and chips, frozen, dry. Disgusting
